type: Dessert
identification: Medium size, round conic to oblong. Yellow base colour is blushed red or orange on the sun exposed face. The calyx is medium size and partly open, set in a medium depth and narrow basin which is surrounded by a lightly knobbed crown. The stem is medium length, medium thick with a pronounced knob at the end, set in a medium deep and wide, lightly russeted cavity.
characteristics: Juicy and sweet with strawberry flavours.
origins: Developed in 1945 at the Alnarp Agriculture College in Sweden by crossing Melba with Stenbock. Introduced, 1970.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, Very hardy.
cold storage: Does not keep well.
harvest: In the first half of the third period, over the span of several weeks.
notes: The Silva is often confused with the Sylvia which also originated in Sweden and is a cross of Astrakan Gyllenkroks and Worcester Pearmain.
