Sauron
identification: Medium to large and obloid. Blushed red and marked with reddish purple broken striping over green to greenish yellow base colour. Thin skin, smooth and somewhat glossy. Lenticels are meduim size and abundant. The stalk is very short and moderately stout.
characteristics: The flesh is white, moderately firm and tender.Juicy, sweet?tart and aromatic.
origins: Fruit Research Station Cluj, Romania (FRS Cluj) Selected from a test plot of open pollinated seedlings of Cluj 3/83 (a Golden Pearmain progeny pollinated with NJ46). Introduced in 2007.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading, moderately productive tree. Bears frount on spurs and tips. Annual production. Ready for harvest at the start of the fir period, coincidental with Akane, James Grieve and Summered.Somewhat susceptible to scab and mildew.
ploidism: Self sterile.
