identification: Small tending to medium size. Conic, often irregular, sometimes flattened at the ends. The green base colour is washed carmine on the sun exposed faces and marked with greyish, russeted lenticels. Abundant russet lenticels. The calyx is small and partly opened, set in an irregular, puckered basin and surrounded by a lightly knobbed crown. The stem is short, set in a narrow, shallow cavity which is russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is pale yellowish. Firm. Aromatic.
uses: Primarily used to provide bitterness to blended cider.
origins: Originated in Normandy region of France.
