summary: Bred in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, this sweet and crispy apple lends itself well to back yards as well as smaller market operations.
identification: Large. Round and often lopsided. The base colour is golden yellow which is covered 40 to 80 per cent with bright red stripes, Scattered large russeted lenticels. The skin has a greasy feel at maturity and in storage. The eye is small, partly open and set in a somewhat deep, narrow and puckered basin. The stem is long, slender and set in a deep and narrow, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is medium firm, medium grained, juicy and sweet with aroma. Refreshingly sweet-tart
origins: A Lord Lambourne crossed with pollen from Golden Delicious. Developed in 1960 by 0. Louda in Penecin, Czech Republic. Released in 1976.
cultivation: Vigorous to very vigorous, upright spreading tree during the first several years, then moderates. Tip bearer. Does not lend itself to spindle cultivation. Produces moderate harvests on an annual basis. Suitable for backyard plots as well as u-pick operations.
