identification: Medium tending to large size, round and sometimes tending to conic, faintly ribbed on the sides. Deep red, often with a lilac bloom, over a greenish yellow base colour. Red stripes are evident on the shaded face where the background shows through. Abundantly marked with medium size, light-coloured lenticels. The calyx is small and tightly close, set in a shallow basin, surrounded by a knobbed crown. The stem is short and medium thickset in a moderately deep, wide cavity which is often russetted.
