Roter Ananas

identification: Medium size, round and sometimes slightly conic. The base colour is golden yellow when fully mature, washed dark red on the sun exposed surface and marked with faint red stripes on the shaded face.The eye is small and closed set in a narrow, recessed basin. The stem is every short and moderately stout, set in a shallow and narrow, lightly russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white except next to the skin where it is stained pink. Fine?grained, firm. When first picked, it has a strong pinapple flavour and acidity, but this matures to a sweet strawberry flavour in storage.
origins: Germany 1854 Claimed to have been found at Sieglitzerberg, Germany by Richter, Court Gardener at Dessau Saxony. First described 1854
