identification: Medium size. round conic. Skin base colour is green maturing to pale yellow washed just a bit more than half with a medium red with darker stripes. The eye is medium size, and closed. The stem is moderately stout and medium length tending to short, set in a deep, narrow, russeted cavity. Lenticels are light coloured, moderately largel and abundant.
characteristics: The flesh is white, fine grained and tender. Very juicy and very sweet (Brix 14) with just a hint of tartness. Fruity, with a candied flavour. Bruises easily.
uses: Fresh eating and baking.
origins: Developed at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Station in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec (Canada) from a cross pollination of Ottawa 521 and Ottawa 541. The two cultivars were developed at the facility and selected for their disease resistance; collectively they include Melba, McIntosh, Rome Beauty and Malus floribunda821 ancestry. Released in 1983.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading. Slow to come into production, but crops annually. Very hardy. Does well for small, farm-gate and market orchards, but not well suited for large-scale commercial production.

vulnerabilities: Some resistance to powdery mildew, fire blight, resistant to scab, prone to apple rust.
