synonyms: de Genet, sometimes mistakenly called Reinette d Amorique and Reinette d'Amerique, the latter being another variety.
identification: Medium tending to large, round, sometimes flattened, Base colour is green maturing to yellow, often blushed dark red on the sun exposed face and marked with a light?coloured, russet lenticels which give the skin a rough feel. The eye is medium size and open, set in a shallow basin which is surrounded by a patch of cinnamon russet and, often, a faint and irregularly knobbed crown. The stem is short and medium thickness, set in a deep and narrow cavity which is surrounded by an extensive patch of russet.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white, fine grained, dense, crisp and firm. Sweet?sharp and aromatic, mellowing in storage.
uses: An eating apple, sometimes used for making a pale yellow, aromatic cider.
origins: Brittany France
cultivation: Moderately vigorous. Starts to bear fruit as a young tree. Tolerant of windyareas. Tends to bear every other year unless the heavy fruit set is thinned.
