origins: A cross of Malus 'Molten Lava' with pollen from (Malus 'Red Jade' x Malus 'Lemoine') x Malus toringoides
Developed by the Reverent John L. Fiala in the 1980s at his Falconskeape Gardens near Medina, Ohio (U.S.A.). The variety was tested and subsequently patented by Charles Klehm & Sons Nursery in South Barrington, Illinois (U.S.A.).
cultivation: Grows to between three and four metres in height at maturity, with a weeping growth habit. Bears an abundance of fruit on an annual basis, though the small, glossy, red berries which grow in cluster of four to six are quite firm and not suitable for human consumption.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to most apple diseases.
harvest: Starting Clings to tree when ripe.
notes: Somewhat similar to Red Jade crab apple
