Pomeroy of Somerset

synonyms: Jenny Oubury, Pomeroy, Old Pomeroy, Sweet Pomeroy, Taunton. The synonym Pomeroy is also used by several other Pomeroy varieties.
identification: Medium size, round and somewhat conic in shape, often with angular faces. The skin base colour is greenish yellow washed deep red and marked with broken red stripes, heaviest on the sun exposed face and covered with a patchy coat of thin greyish russet. The lenticels are also russeted and prominent. The eye is large and open, set in a shallow and wide, ribbed basin. The stem is quite short and set in a moderately wide and deep cavity which is russeted with patches extending to the shoulder and beyond.
characteristics: Flesh is cream coloured, firm, crisp and juicy. Taste is sweet?sharp and reminiscent of pineapple.
