uses: The Pig Aderyn fulfills several functions. Picked early, it stands as a vintage cider apple, after that it becomes an excellent cooking apple and, when allowed to fully ripen, it is rated as an excellent fresh-eating apple.
origins: Grown since Norman times around St. Dogmaels Abbey near Carmarthen, Pembrokeshire in coastal northern Wales (U.K.)
cold storage: Keeps up to five months in storage.
harvest: In the middle of the fifth period.
notes: Though its name suggests some connection to pork, it actually means "bird's beak" in Welsh, referring to its shape.
