summary: A vigorous, tall tree with large, sweet-tart fruit that has a long storage period. Sensitive to disease.
identification: Medium tending to large, sometimes very large. Round tending to oblong. The base colour is greenish-yellow, washed burgundy-red except on the sun-exposed face. The stem is short. The skin is moderately thick, smooth and chewy.
characteristics: The flesh is ivory-coloured, coarse-grained, crisp and firm. Very juicy, sweet and tart, somewhat spicy with good aroma. Sometimes mildly bitter surrounding the core.
uses: A good apple for fresh eating out-of-hand and baking. Also makes a tasty apple sauce.
origins: Developed by Dr. Susan Brown and Dr. Roger Way in 1962 at the New York State Agriculture Experiment Station in Geneva, New York (U.S.A.), by crossing

cultivation: Vigorous, upright branching tree which has a tendency to become quite large. The fruit set needs to be thinned to prevent it from lapsing into biennial production.
cold storage: Keeps up to four months in storage.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to scab, mildew and blight and the skin sometimes tends to crack. Moderately susceptible to brown rot. Bitter pit can be a problem.
