identification: Medium tending to large and round conic in shape, sometimes irregular. The skin base colour is pale yellow which is washed with a dark red blush over about three quarters of the surface and red stripes on the shaded face. Red lenticels. Occasionally some russet.
characteristics: The flesh is pale cream colour, fine textured, crisp. Juicy, sweet, slightly acidic and aromatic.
uses: Fresh eating apple.
origins: Developed at New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, Geneva, New York (U.S.A.) by crossing Carlton with pollen from McIntosh in 1939, selected in 1950 and introduced in 1962.
cultivation: Hardy, vigorous spreading tree. Prone to bearing crops every other year. The fruit has a tendency to start dropping before is fully ripe.
cold storage: Keeps about a month.
vulnerabilities: Very susceptible to scab, mildew. Somewhat susceptible to fire blight.
harvest: Ready for harvest in the middle of the fourth period.
