identification: Medium size, round?oval shape, ribbed and often uneven. The skin base colour is greenish yellow flushed deep red on the sun exposed face. Usually russeted over the entire surface and the lenticels are a dark russet. The stalk is short tending to medium and set in a deep and uneven cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is tender, sweet anf flavourful. Becomes sweeter in storage. Keeps up to three months in cold storage.
uses: Worcestershire.
origins: Chance ssedling growing from discarded cider pomace Newland Court near Great Malvern
notes: last surviving tree was at Newland Court in 2002 and became source of cuttings for propogating trees at this time
ploidism: Self sterile.
