synonyms: Sometimes shortened to Bess Pool, but that name properly refers to the parent of this variety.
identification: Medium size, round sometimes flattened and also tending to conic and angular in shape. The skin base colour is yellow washed entirely with mahogany red on the sun exposed face. The shaded face has short, broken stripes over the base colour. The base is heavily russeted and the lenticels are also russet. The eye is medium to large and open, set in a shallow and medium wide basin.The stem is medium short and medium heavy, set in a deep, funnel shaped and russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is greenish white, crisp, juicy and sweet, slightly tart. Keeps three months in cold storage.
