identification: Medium size tending to small, symetrical and somewhat conic. Skin is green tending to yellow with maturity and washed on more than three quarters of the apple with medium to dark lively red. Lenticels are prominent and light coloured. The stem is medium thick and medium length, set in a shallow cavity.
characteristics: Flesh is creamy white with an occasional tinge of pale green. Tender, slightly coarse-grained, firm and juicy. Sweet-tart.
uses: Intended to be eaten fresh or pressed for juice.
origins: Developed in the early 1960s at Agriculture Canada's Smithfield Experimental Farm in Trenton, Ontario (Canada), by crossing a
Thome McIntosh with an experimental variety labelled PRI 47-77. The seedling was selected for advanced trials as O-548 and introduced in 1978.
cultivation: Very hardy, moderately vigorous, spreading tree.
