identification: Large, sometimes very large. Round-oblate. The skin base colour is golden yellow washed red on the sun-exposed face and marked with a pattern of red stripes. The calyx is small and partly open, set in a somewhat deep and moderately narrow basin. The stem is short to very short and set in a deep and narrow, lightly russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, fine-grained and tender. Juicy, sweet and mildly tart. Aromatic. K
uses: An excellent eating apple. Also cooks well.
origins: Developed from a cross of Yellow Transparent x Liveland Raspberry in 1914 at the University of Minnesota's Fruit Breeding Farm in Excelsior, Minnesota (U.S.A.). Introduced in 1949.
