summary: Somewhat on the large size and better known as the Redwell, it is a good apple for baking, making sauce and for eating out of hand. Hardy and well suited for farm-gate sales.
identification: Medium to large size. Round. The skin base colour is yellow which is washed with bright red and marked with a dense pattern of red stripes on the sun exposed surface. Usually covered with a fine bluish bloom. The eye is small and closed, set ina medium deep and irregularly ribbed basin. The stem is short and slender, sein in a deep and narrow, lightly russeted cavity,
characteristics: The flesh is greenish white, tender and somewhat soft. Juicy and slightly tart.
origins: Originated in 1911 at the University of Minnesota's Fruit Breeding Farm in Excelsior, Minnesota (U.S.A.) as an open-pollinated seedling of Scott's Winter and selected in 1923. Introduced in 1946.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading and somewhat dwarfing tree. Bears good crops annually. Very hardy. Bears annual crops.
