Minister von Hammerstein

identification: Medium tending to large. Round with angular, distinctly ribbed faces. Yellow, sometimes with a pale red blush on the sun exposed face. The eye is small and partly open, set in a flat, shallow and prominently puckered basin. The stem is short, medium slender and set in a deep, moderately narrow and lightly russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white, firm. Juicy, sweet and fruity. Keeps three months in cold storage.
origins: — Landsberger Reinette’ cross, raised, 1822, by R.Goethe, Geisenheim, Germany, named after then Minister of Agriculture, first fruited 1891, introduced, 1900
cultivation: Weakly vigorous. Produces heavy crops, ready for harvest early in the FOURTH period.
