identification: Medium size and somewhat conic in shape. Greenish yellow base colour washed bright red and marked with broken darker stripes. Numerous light tan lenticels starting at the stem end and decreasing in number toward the eye. The eye is large and open, set in a shallow and wide basin.Stem is short and stout, set in a sumwhat deep and narrow cavity which is lightly russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured. Extremely juicy, sweet and slightly tart and delicate in flavour. When allowed to fully ripen on the tree, it has a faint aroma typical of its Cox parentage. Keeps four months in cold storage.
uses: Intended as a fresh eating apple. Frequently used for juice because of its high liquid content.
origins: Originally labelled A931?15, this apple was developed by Dr. Frank Alston in 1979 by crossing a Falstaff (itself a Cox s progeny crossed with a James Grieve) with a Cox s Orange Pippin at the Horticulture Research International Station in East Malling, UK. It was officially launched at t 1999 National Fruit Show in Kent.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading spur bearer. Heavy crop on an annual basis. Disease resistant. Ready for harvest inthe middle of the THIRD period.
