uses: An early eating apple.
origins: Originated in England before the 1600s and first mentioned in John Rea's "Flora: Seu, De Florum Cultura" published in 1665. There is no record of its parentage.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright tree. Bears fruit on spurs. Produces good crops. Adapts well to pots.
cold storage: Does not keep well, tending to become mealy within a few days of being harvested.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to scab.
harvest: A very early apple, it is ready for harvest in the first half of the second period.
notes: Described by John Rea in the 1665 edition of "Flora, Seu, De Florum Cultura" as "The Margaret, Magdalen Apple, is a fair and beautiful fruit, yellow and thick striped with red, early ripe, of a delicate taste, sweet scent, and best eaten off the tree, and therefore most fit for a wall."
