identification: Medium to large size, conic with pronounced ribbing and prominently crowned. The skin base colour is greenish yellow washed with bright red and striped on the sun exposed face. The calyx is small and open, set in a shallow, wide and irregularly ribbed basin. The stem is slender, medium length and set in a deep, narrow, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white with pale red stains next to the skin. Fine-grained, tender, melting. Juicy, sweet, sprightly, aromatic with a hint of almond.
uses: An excellent early season apple. Great for eating fresh.
origins: Developed at the Dominion Research Station in Morden, Manitoba (Canada) by crossing Tetofsky with McIntosh. Introduced in 1929.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright tree. Semi spur. Produces heavy crops annually but may become biennial unless blossoms are trimmed at fruit set.
