identification: Large and conic. The base colour is yellow over which is a red wash that covers all sun?exposed surfaces. Over this is a pattern of darker stripes which become faint on the shaded face of the apple. The eye is small and partly open, set in a medium deep and open basin. The stem is short and slender set in a deep and open cavity which is russeted with rays extending onto the shoulder.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, soft. Sweet and aromatic.
origins: Jonathan crossed with pollen from Cox s Orange Pippin in 1935 at the Institut Voor de Veredeling van Tuinbouwgewassen in Wageningen (Netherlands) introduced, 1955
cultivation: Vigorous, spreading tree. Ready for harvest in the first half of the FOURTH period.
