identification: Medium size and round conic. The skin is pale yellow green covered with a reddish brown flush over which are darker red, broken stripes. The skin tends to be smooth in spite of the numerous small russet lenticels and becomes greasy at maturity. The eye is small and closed in a shallow and open basin around which is a faintly knobbed crown. The stem is short and medium thick, set in a rather deep, tight cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is greenish yellow, finely textured and tender. Juicy, sweet and aromatic, with just a touch of tart.
origins: Developed by Laxton Brothers nursery of Bedford (U.K.) in 1908 by crossing Cox's Orange Pippin (@?????) (female) with Gladstone @?????? (pollen parent). It was released in 1929 and received the Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1932.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading spur bearer. Tolerates moist to wet climates. Ready for Harvests:Ripens by the beginning of the SECOND
cold storage: Ripens early but must be used soon after. Does not keep well
