identification: Medium size. Conic. The base colour is yellow over which is a pattern of broken dark red stripes on the sun exposed face and broken bright red stripes, somewhat more sparse on the shaded side. The eye is small and closed, set in a very shallow basin. The stem is long and set in a moderately deep and funnel shaped cavity with slight russeting.
characteristics: The flesh is white, soft. Juicy. subacid. Somewhat aromatic and a hint of raspberry flavour. Keeps two months in cold storage.

origins: Buckinghamshire UK 1898//raised in the late 1800s by nurseryman James Veitch at the Veitch nurseries in Chelse — Cox s Orange Pippin x Gladstone, Veitch at Langley Nursery, Buckinghamshire, England, 1898 NFC: Raised by Veitch at Chelsea, London. First described in 1898. Introduced by Veitch. It received the Award of Merit f the RHS in 1898.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous spreading tree. Spur bearer. Ready for harvest in the middle of the SECOND period.
