identification: Large, round, often with pronounced angular sides. The base colour is yellow washed red and marked with darker red striping in the sun exposed face, the striping fading into the base colour on the shaded side. The eye is small and tightly closed, set in a shallow and wide basin which is surrounded by an irregularly knobbed crown. The stem is short and somewhat stout, set in a deep, funnel shaped and russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, firm. Juicy and sweet.
uses: Cooking. Makes a yellow, bland sauce.
