identification: Medium tending to large. Round to round-flattened. Completely washed carmine which is marked with scattered, light-coloured lenticels. The stem is short and clubbed, set deep in a narrow, russetted cavity.

origins: According to Creighton Lee Calhoun in his "Old Southern Apples," the Johnson Keeper was rediscovered in 2013 by heritage apple hunter Tom Brown 2013 in the northern Piedmont region of Wilkes County, North Carolina (U.S.A.).
