identification: Large to very large, round flattened, often with angular sides. Pale yellow with bright red striping and flushes. Light blue bloom develops prior to harvest.
characteristics: The flesh is pale greenish, soft. Juicy, sweet and sprightly. Browns quickly when exposed to air.
uses: Culinary and fresh eating. Great for apple pies.
origins: A chance seedling found in 1903 by Jakob Fischer at Rottum in Kreis Biberach, WŸrttemberg (Germany).
cultivation: Very vigorous, upright pyramidal. Grows best in light, warm loams. Produces first fruit at six years and has definite tendancy to yield crops every other year.
cold storage: Keeps less than a month.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab and mildew, except when grown in heavy, wet soils.
harvest: Late in the third period.
ploidism: Triploid. Group ???? Day ???? early. Sensitive to l frosts.
