identification: Large, round with angular sides. Yellow washed red and marked with broken stripes on the sun exposed face. The eye is large and open, set in a moderately deep and wide basin which is lightly ribbed and surrounded by a knobbed crown. The stem is very short and medium thick, set in a shallow and wide, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, fine grained and firm. Crisp, sharp.
uses: Cooking. Makes a somewhat tart, flavourful sauce.
origins: Introduced by Nurseryman ???? Spooner of Hounslow, 1910 Introduced by Spooner, nurseryman of Hounslow, Middlesex. It was recorded in 1910 when it also received an Award of Merit from the RHS. Dumelow’s Seedling ? (female) ? Unknown
