synonyms: Holland Winter, Kirton, Kirton Pippin. Sometimes simply referred to as Holland, but this is a North American cultivar. The name Holland Pippin is also a synonym used for Potts' Seedling .
identification: Large, round, flat. Ribbed sides. The skin is greenish yellow maturing to yellow. The sun exposed face is lightly blushed brown. Liberally strewn with green lenticels. The stem is short and set in a wide, deep cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, coarse-grained, firm, tender and juicy. Brisk and sweet. Fruits have soft, coarse, mealy flesh with a slightly acid flavour.
uses: Cooking. Keeps its shape.
origins: Lincolnshire UK 1729 This is the Holland Pippin of Langley and Miller, but not of or Ralph Austen, who make it synonymous with the Kirton Pippin, which Ray describes as being small and oblate, and t same as is called Broadeye in Sussex, The Holland Pippin is native of the Holland district of Lincolnshire, hence its name.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading spur bearer.
cold storage: Keeps three months in storage.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
