type: Cooking
identification: Small to medium. Base colour is green maturing to straw yellow. The stem is long and slender, set in a moderately deep cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, somewhat coarse, .Juicy and tart but very mild flavour. The skin is very thin.Keeps less than three weeks in cold storage.
uses: Used for cooking but it tends to brown quickly.
origins: Grown by Adolph Heyer in Neville, Saskatchewan (Canada) from seeds obtained from A.P. Stevenson at Morden Manitoba. Introduced 1940. Seedling from Russian apple (possibly Blushed Calville).
cultivation: Very hardy, moderately vigorous spreading tree. Starts to bear at three years and produces good crops annually. Ready for harvest starting early in the THIRD peri and fruit needs to be picked at full maturity for best quali Hardy to Zone 1.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to fire blight.
