identification: Medium to large size, round shape and lightly ribbed. The skin is smooth, base colour yellow extensively covered with broken stripes and blushes of carmine. Lenticels are yellowish and blurred. Stem is short, thick and set in a wide, deep and russetted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, firm. Juicy and sweet-tart.
origins: Originated in Cass County in northern Georgia (U.S.A.) during the mid-1800s. John Ashton Warder listed the Hamilton apple in his "American Pomology: Apple" published in 1867. Charles Downing also mentioned the apple in his 1869 update of A.J. Downing's "Fruits and Fruit Trees of America" with the comment "Origin unknown. Came from the South."
