identification: Medium to large. Round sometimes tending slightly to round conic. The base colour is green, maturing to pale yellow, usually with no over-cover although a pale bronze blush can sometimes arise on the sun-exposed face. The stem is short and somewhat stout, set in a deep, wide, russetted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is pale yellow, crisp, tender and juicy.
origins: Thought to have originated in Georgia or North Carolina (U.S.A.) during the 1700s. There seems to be no record of its origins.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous. Tends to produce best every other year.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to scab.
harvest: Ready for harvest in the fourth period.
notes: The name of the apple comes from the shape which resembled a wheel of cheddar cheese.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
