identification: Small to medium size and round conic, sometimes slightly lopsided. The skin colour is pale green maturing to yellow with barely visible lenticels. A short and thin stem is set in a moderately deep and wide basin that can be lightly russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white, crisp and fine grained. Juicy with almost no tartness. Tastes very much like a Golden Delicious. Can be kept up to two months in cold storage, but it tends to lose its crispness and develop blotches.
uses: It was intended as a locally grown replacement for Golden Delicious apples for South African markets.
origins: this variety was developed by the Agricultural Research Council. Release 1993 Developed in >>>>>>by >>>>>> at the Fruit and Fruit Technology Research Institute (now known as the Agriculture Research Council) in Hatfield, Pretoria (South Africa). The parent was Cox s Orange Pippin which was pollinated with Golden Delicious and the variety was released in 1992 as an early Goldn?type apple for local markets.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, semi spreading tree. It bears fruit on spurs and sets abundantly, requiring thinning. Read for harvest at the start of the second period (about two wee before Golden Delicious. Prone to bruising and sunburn. Also susceptible to scab and mildew.
