identification: Large, round and flattened at the ends. The ribs are pronounced and broad. The base colour is pale green ripening to yellow, Broken orange stripes on the sun?exposed face. It tends to become greasy in storage. The eye is small and ??????, set in a deep and narrow, puckered basin which is surrounded by an unevenly knobbed crown.
characteristics: Flesh is pale cream coloured, soft and juicy. Somewhat acidic.
uses: Sharp and delicately flavoured when eaten fresh, Holds its shape for pies and makes a lightly flavoured sauce that needs little sugar.
origins: George Neal apple was raised by Mrs Reeves at Otford, Kent, in 1904. Introduced in 1923 by nurseryman George Neal, of Wandsworth, and named after him. Received RHS Award of Merit in 1923.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading spur bearer. Precocious. Ready for harvest in the first half of t AUGUST period.
cold storage: About ix weeks.
vulnerabilities: Highly reistant to scab.
