Exeter Cross
identification: Small to medium size. Round and flat. Base skin colour is greenish yellow over which is a bright red flush. Prominent broken stripes. Skin is smooth but with a greasy feel.
characteristics: Flesh is creamy white, firm, crisp and juicy. Tends to be astringent when picked early, mellows to become juicy and sweet.
origins: Raised in 1924 by G T Spinks at Long Ashton Research Station, Bristol from a Worcester Pearmain X Beauty of Bath. Named in 1954.
