identification: Small, round and oblate. The skin is green maturing to yellow green and blushed faint red on the sun exposed face. The stalk is medium long, slender and set in a round cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, firm, crisp with a rich, nutty flavour. Sweet?tart. Keeps four months in cold storage.
uses: A highly prized English heritage eating apple.
origins: First recorded in 1831. Presumed to have arisen in Essex. Indistinguishable from Blenheim Orange.
cultivation: Vigorous upright spreading. Partial tip bearer. Tends to produce best every other year. Ready for harvest at the start of the second period.
