identification: Small to medium size, round conic, sometimes with lightly angular faces. The base colour is golden yellow, blushed pale orange and marked with scattered brownish lenticels and, occasionally, rays of russet extending across the shoulder and partway down the faces. The stem is medium length and slender, set in a shallow and narrow cavity. The calyx is small with long leaves, partly open and set in a shallow basin. Thin skinned with waxy build-up at maturity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, coarse-grained. Juicy with sweet/sharp flavour.
uses: Primarily a fresh-eating apple, but also used in making cider.
origins: A cross of Ananas Reinette X Manks Codlin developed by fruit breeder Diedrick Uhlhorn Jr. at Grevenbroich in Germany`s Rheinland during the 1880s. Introduced in 1908.
cultivation: Weakly vigorous, pyramid shaped growth habit. spur bearer. Dense, short branching. Produces heavy crops on a biennial basis. Fruit tends to drop before and during maturity. Suitable in hardiness zones 5 to 9
