identification: Medium size. Round tending to conic with noticeably angular sides. The base colour is yellow blushed orange on the sun-exposed face. The eye is medium size and partly open, set in a shallow, narrow and puckered basin. The stem is short and stout, set in a deep and moderately narrow cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, coarse-grained, firm and tough. Intensely flavoured, nutty and fruity, sweet-sharp.
origins: Sturmer Pippin Sturmer Pippin x Goldilocks Golden Russet. This was one of 14 varieties developed by Eynsham apple breeder Frederick William Wastie.
