identification: Medium size. Green background colour over which is an intense red flush.
characteristics: Flesh is white, very juicy and sharp. Sweet and with a distinct strawberry flavour. If picked before fully ripe, it tends to be somewhat too sharp to be pleasant.
uses: Dessert apple best eaten fresh.
origins: Created at the Ince Orchards in Chester, Cheshire (UK), and introduced in 1952 James Grieve and Worcester Pearmain, 1950s
cultivation: Upright spreading spur bearer.Weak vigour but a heavy cropper that ripens in the first half of the SECOND period..
notes: The Elton Beauty is unique in that there are a number of other apple varieties from the same James Grieve x Worcester Pearmain cross, notably the Katy and the Lord Lambourne, each with their own characteristics.
ploidism: Needs a pollinizer. Group. B. Day 7.
