identification: Medium size, conical and ribbed with prominent ridges. The skin base colour is greenish yellow maturing quickly to golden yellow which is blushed pale red on the sun exposed face and striped crimson. Small russet patches. The eye is small and closed, set in a deep and narrow basin which is ribbed and surrounded by an irregularly knobbed crown. The stalk is medium length and slender, set in a deep, narrow cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, tender, juicy and sweet?tart.
uses: Cooking and fresh eating. best used to make a brisk and flavourful sauce.
origins: Presumed to be a seedling of the White Calville raise by Sidney Ford who was head gardener for W. E. Hubbard of Leonard s Lee at Horsham (UK). It received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1878. Na for Robert Hogg, noted british pomologist of the 1800s and author of ??????????????????????
