summary: Juicy and sweet, this apple lends itself to eating out of hand as well as sliced and added to salads. Cut them into slices and try them with sharp cheese. The trees are vigorous and usually produce annual crops.
identification: Medium size, tending to large. Round-conic shape with some weak ribbing. The skin glossy and smooth, sparsely marked with medium-size tan, lenticels. The base colour is greenish yellow, heavily marked with dark red striping. Some russet can develop at the stem cavity. Light bloom develops on the skin as the fruit ripens. The calyx is large and open, set in a deep and narrow basin. The stem is moderately stout and long, set in a moderately deep and narrow cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, coarse-grained, crisp and somewhat firm. Juicy and very sweet. Slightly tart. Tends to brown when exposed to air.
origins: Developed in 1971 by Shahrokh Khanizadeh at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada facility at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec (Canada).
cultivation: Vigorous with spreading growth habit, tending to droop. Bears fruit on spurs and shoots.
