synonyms: Marketed as Divine, registered as Divine Pure Apple. Sometimes goes by Delbardivine but that name is actually used by Delbard Nurseries to denote the Delfloga (Adore).
summary: Developedat the Pépinières et Roseraies Georges Delbard in central France, this self-fertile dessert apple offers some surprising and excellent flavours.
identification: Conic shape, faintly ribbed and often lopsided. Medium to large size. Skin is smooth with yellow base colour over which is a red wash and a tight pattern of darker striping. Lenticels are light-coloured and sparsely scattered toward the stem end, abundant though smaller at the calyx end. The stem is very long and slender with a knobbed end. Look for a wide and medium deep cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is pale cream, firm and juicy. Sweet with a refreshing acidity.
uses: Good for eating fresh. Also in salads.
origins: A disease-resistant cross of (Golden Delicious x Grive Rouge) x Florina developed in 1988 by Guy Devillard at the Pépinières et Roseraies Georges Delbard in Malicorne, France. Released in 1998.
