summary: Similar to McIntosh, this hardy apple is both flavourful and juicy, it ripens fairly early and stores well. Good for fresh-eating and makes excellent pies.
identification: Medium size. Round-conic. The skin base colour is cream, streaked bright red on all surfaces, becoming more pink as it matures.
characteristics: The flesh is white. Fine-grained, firm and very juicy with well-balanced taste. Tart if harvested early, sweetens with ripeness. Best sweetness develops when exposed to a frost. Turns brown slowly once exposed to air.
origins: One of a bag of 300 pips collected by V.G. Collet from miscellaneous apples growing at the Dominion Research Station at Morden, Manitoba (Canada) and planted in 1934 at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes in Manitoba (Canada). Parentage unknown. Released in 1948.
cultivation: Vigorous, hardy tree, moderately vigorous and spreading. Produces good crops annually.
