identification: Small, round. The base colour is greenish yellow, washed red on the sun-exposed faces over which are darker red stripes. The stem is short to medium length, stout and set in a shallow, narrow cavity with russet extending up onto and sometimes over the shoulder. The calyx is small and closed, set in a shallow basin. A slight bloom sometimes coats the apple as it approaches ripeness.
characteristics: The flesh is white, fine-grained soft. Moderately juicy, sweet, slight tannins some years. Browns quickly when exposed to air.
origins: Nouvelle-Aquitaine Brittany (France), 1800s
cultivation: Vigorous. Bears fruit on spurs.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to fire blight.
ploidism: Triploid. Produces only sterile pollen.
