identification: Just marginally larger than a golf ball. Red skin, often accented with dark stripes. Round shape. The stem is long and slender, set in a deep and open cavity. Small, tan lenticels are loosely scattered in the around the surface of the apple.
characteristics: Depending on a growing season with abundant sunshine, the fruit can be crisp, sweet and tart, with well-defined red berry aromas. Too much shade can result in faded colours. The straight, slender stem is set in a wide and deep cavity. The calyx is wide and shallow.
origins: A cross of Wickson Crab and Rubaiyat. Developed through the 2010s and introduced in 2018 by Steven Edholm of Ukiah in Oregon State, (U.S.A.).
cultivation: Compact, semi-dwarf tree. Best suited to temperate climates. Fruit tends to be tart and bland when grown in cool and shaded environments.
cold storage: Does not store well; flesh fades to purple once picked. Maximum storage is less than a week after picking. Once dry, it becomes bitter.
vulnerabilities: Prone to mites and insect damage. Somewhat susceptible to fire blight.
