type: Dessert, Eating, Pie, Sauce
identification: Medium tending to large, oblong shape. Skin colour is greenish yellow washed almst entirely with red over which are mottles of deeper red. The stem is medium long.
characteristics: The flesh is white, tender and sof, fine textured. Mild and aromatic.
uses: Favoured as a fresh eating apple, but also good in pies and sauce.
origins: Developed by C.R. Ure at the Federal Agriculture Research Station in Morden, Manitoba (Canada) by crossing Moscow Pear Apple (Morden 5029-E152) with Melba . Released in 1961.
cultivation: A small tree, spreading. Produces annual harvests. Tolerates Hardiness Zone 3 to 8.
cold storage: Keeps for up to three months.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to scab.
harvest: Ready for harvest about a week before the start of the second period.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
