summary: Popular since the 1800s, this red-flesh cider apple favours warm climates.
origins: Originally found growing as a chance seedling growing on the home site of first American Governor Patrick Henry's land in the late 1700s. The orchard changed hands several times through to the 1900s when it was taken over by the Burford family which continued to market and sell the red-fleshed apples under the Burford Red Flesh tag.
