identification: Medium tending to large in size. The skin base colour is yellow blushed red over two thirds of the surface.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, crisp, juicy and sweet. Sprightly.
uses: A pleasantly refreshing sweet?tart apple for fresh eating. Makes an excellent pie. Great for salads since the cut apple does not turn brown. Stores up to three months in cold storage.
origins: McIntosh x Golden Delicious University of Maine, 1934, Named for Henry Brock, orchardist at Alfred, Maine. Jonathan x Golden Delicious, 1933, by James Bailey, Univeristy of Maine, USA, named after Henery Brock, orchardist from Alfred, Maine, introduced, 1941
cultivation: Vigorous spreading tree. Bears fruit on spurs. Ready for harvest late in the first period or the beginning of the second. Fruit hangs well even after ripening. There is som inclination to bear ever second year, but this is easily contr if the set fruit is thinned about a month after petal fall.
