identification: Medium to large. Shape is round tending to oblong.. Skin colour yellow with a thin pink to red blush on the sun exposed side. Somewhat rough to the touch. The lenticels are olive to brown on most of the skin except in the blushed areas where they are red. At ripeness the skin tends to become waxy. The eye is medium size, partly open with long petals, set in a shallow and narrow, ribbed basin. The stem is medium length, slender and set in a deep and narrow, lightly russeted cavity.
characteristics: Flesh is creamy yellow, somewhat coarse in texture, but firm. Juicy with a good sweet-tart balance. Hints of pear and banana and, to some people, a fermented aftertaste.
origins: Developed by Ralph Griffith of Cobden, Illinois, in the 1980s by crossing a Jonathan with a Golden Delicious. Originally known as Griffith Apple, but trademarked as Blushing Golden by Stark Brothers Nurseries of Louisiana, Missouri.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, uporight spreading spur bearer. Produces on an annual basis.
cold storage: Keeps up to two months, but best soon after being harvested.
vulnerabilities: Moderately resistant to scab.
